Please send your available matching candidates on [email protected] Role : Physical Network Specialist Location : SMUD, CA Duration : 6 months Interview: phone/Skype PURPOSE: The SMUD Network Cabling Technician manages and performs the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of data network cabling systems and surveys installations areas to determine work methods, tools, and build materials. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: 1. Physical Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6 Cable Distribution Systems 2. MDF/IDF backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures 3. Data center best practices, such as hot aisle cold aisle rack configurations, how to rack and cable to maximize cooling 4. Knowledge of computer and networking hardware. 5. Entry level network configuration and design. 6. Hardware components and server swing arm wiring. 7. Network operating systems software familiarity. Education & Experience: 1. Three or more years of experience as a physical infrastructure specialist. 2. Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures. 3. Understand network protocols including TCP/IP. 4. Understand network topologies, including Ethernet, network management and troubleshooting tools such as sniffers, RMON, Fluke network tools, and SNMP. 5. Experience with the installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of intelligent switching hubs and multi-protocol routers. 6. Experience as a project leader on information technology projects. 7. Experience in coordinating with network vendors. Major Duties & Responsibilities 1. Handle and process daily network connection requests, trouble reports, and electrician requests for assistance. 2. Work with copper twisted pair, single- and multi-mode fiber optic, coaxial cable, or equivalent. 3. Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems, maintain lines, or repair cable. (Equipment such as digital meters, cable scanners, LANmeters, portable sniffers, fiberoptic light source and power meter, laptop computers using IP protocols, and electronic circuitry, copper and fiber optic cable, or equivalent may be used.) 4. Plan, install, maintain, and relocate network hardware. (Hardware such as Cisco routers and switches, Sniffers, and other equivalent network monitoring equipment.) 5. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot intra building fiber-optic cables from MDF to IDF wiring closets, terminate with ST, LC and SC type fiber-optic connectors, manufacture and provide fiber patch cords, maintain and troubleshoot outside plant inter building fiber-optic cables, or equivalent, or oversee contractors. 6. Troubleshoot network connection complaints and cable faults. 7. Monitor, inspect and approve the work of contractors. 8. Certify data wiring and monitor, inspect, and conduct all tests required, ensuring all system component connections are operating properly. (Equipment such as to CAT 5 and CAT 6 for compliance with Ethernet and Fast Ethernet standards, and other comparable equipment.) 9. Maintain knowledge on evolving data communication concepts. 10. Order and inventory materials 11. Maintain a computer based equipment and cable management system. Skill To: 1. Communicate effectively. 2. Work as a team member. 3.
