*JOB SUMMARY*

The Lead DevOps Engineer will use skills in Linux server technology on a
Puppet-based virtual platform to provide team leadership for the design and
deployment of a highly-available, highly-scalable and geographically
diverse infrastructure to support business critical applications.  The Lead
DevOps Engineer will also provide leadership and support for Java and
Tomcat-based applications.  This person must be passionate about
technology, and have a vigor for automating everything repetitive.



*ESSENTIAL Job Duties & Responsibilities*

•Responsible for team performance including setting priorities, problem
escalation, career development, and performance evaluations

•Periodic review of Linux servers and support infrastructure to ensure
adequate capacity, performance levels, and upgrade requirements

•Technical lead for Linux infrastructure design, performance, and
configuration management

•Responsible for source repository design, setup, and ongoing support to
help ensure correct artifact versioning and control

•Design/Architect the Linux Infrastructure to support business needs and
address security compliance/requirements

•Provide automation and tuning of enterprise Linux systems and applications
through use of scripting and Puppet automation / configuration management

•Technical lead for deployment automation of all code releases utilizing
Puppet and other support infrastructure to minimize errors, outages, and
deployment downtime windows

•Review and deploy Linux-system related and vendor supplied server and
application patches according to best practices

•Provide support for various Java and Tomcat-based applications on the
Linux platform

•Oversee and assist the team with internal application software code
updates in multiple environments, from Development through to Production,
following established Change Control process

•Troubleshoot and provide break/fix support for hardware, operating system,
and application software issues on the Linux platform

•Works with the team to perform routine diagnostics and maintenance of
Linux systems and associated support infrastructure

•Define and deploy monitoring, metrics, and system logging; utilize
monitoring tools to identify issues and resolve and/or escalate to
Development

•Provide escalation support for members of DevOps team



*Skills & Experience*

•Bachelors in Computer Science or related IT field and/or 8+ years of
experience working within a diverse IT environment.  Industry
certifications related to this position a plus.

•In-depth knowledge of Linux (Red Hat / CentOS) administration and support,
and multi-tier application production operations

•Strong scripting skills (e.g. Shell, Python, Ruby, and Perl)

•Hands on experience and expertise with GIT, Puppet, Ruby, Jenkins/Hudson

•Previous Linux engineering experience

•Previous experience working with VMware ESX

•Experience with managing Open Source software and applications on a Linux
platform

•Comfortable with frequent, incremental code deployments with a strong
grasp of automation tools

•Ability to lead activities on release deployments based on Agile
development methodologies

•Experience working with Puppet as a modern development management tool
with a thorough understanding of configuration management concepts

•Working knowledge of physical and virtual data centers, networking
concepts, operating systems, DNS, and storage as related to a Linux
infrastructure.

•Demonstrated strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

•Self-motivated, self-directed, and attention to detail while working with
data

•Ability to effectively prioritize and execute reporting tasks in a
fast-paced, results-driven environment

•Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with a
diverse team of business and IT staff
