*Job Description:*

*Overview:* The Scrum Master is a servant leader who leads by example. He
or she guides the team and the organization on how to use Agile/Scrum
practices and values to delight customers. He or she optimizes the team to
get the most out of self-organization, while filling in the intentional
gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks. The Scrum Master assesses the
Scrum Maturity of the team and organization, and coaches the team to higher
levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the
team and the organization. He or she removes impediments or guides the team
to remove impediments, and facilitates getting things done without
coercion, assigning, or dictating work. The Scrum Master builds a trusting
and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame,
retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and
problem-solving. He or she assists with internal and external
communication, improving transparency, and radiating information. The Scrum
Master also supports the Product Owner, especially on grooming and
maintaining the product backlog.



* Responsibilities:*

•         Serves as scrum master for two or more development teams

•         Ensures clear communication and organization of all development
team objectives

•         Identifies and removes impediments to development teams

•         Protects teams from both internal and external distractions

•         Supports and educates the Product Owner on scrum best practices,
especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog

•         Works with stakeholders to ensure user stories are fully vetted
and include all necessary requirements and acceptance criteria

•         Grooms user stories with cross-functional development team on a
regular basis

•         Works with stakeholders and PMO to prioritize user stories and
formally plan sprints

•         Holds regular sprint reviews to demonstrate finished work to
stakeholders and celebrate team achievements

•         Supports a culture of continuous process improvement through
sprint retrospectives and metrics analysis

•         Works with PMO to report sprint status to engineering leadership

•         Encourages adoption of a truly Agile mindset, including
ownership, self-organization and empowerment



*Scrum Master Deliverables*

•         Delivers on all sprint commitments made in Sprint Planning

•         Delivers working software on a frequent, iterative basis

•         Provides daily updates to Intake reporting and PMO groups

•         Leads daily Scrum ceremonies for team(s)

•         Presents product reviews at the end of each sprint

•         Runs regular inspect-and-adapt retrospectives for continuous team
improvement



*Skills and Qualifications:*

•         4+ years as a Scrum Master or equivalent Scrum team role

•         Scrum Master certification (CSP/PSM) strongly preferred

•         Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD,
etc.

•         Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team: Jira,
Confluence, Slack

•         Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile
techniques and software development best practices: User Stories, TDD,
Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing

•         Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns
and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum
approach (example: numerous burndown techniques, numerous retrospective
formats, handling bugs, etc.)

•         Previous experience as a team lead

•         Proven leadership capabilities in effective negotiation,
influencing, conflict resolution, and continuous improvement skills

•         Excellent coaching and mentoring skills

•         Understands the fundamentals of iterative development

•         Understands the fundamentals of software development processes
and procedures

•         Understands the value of commitments to delivery made by a
development team

•         Understands backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and
task definition

•         Embodies the values of servant leadership, facilitation,
situational awareness, continual improvement, empowerment, and transparency

•         Good presentation skills with the ability to communicate with a
broad set of constituencies, both technical and non-technical

•         Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

•         Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a
high-pressure environment

•         Collaborative, customer-focused and able to create visible value.
