I'm against dedicating resources to that activity. For running an indexer (mnogosearch) on my local server, I think I have an idea of what it takes. If there was no way to do a search on gna.org, like in my case with my local server (because this one, containing private data, is not about to go public), we surely would need to do that. But there is a way to do that, using external indexers like google. Not using that, it is just providing a service already available, some kind of wheel reinventing. If it was cheap, it would not be a problem, but it is everything but cheap. And in the most probable case, we will not have something as useful and clever than google. So, like in the past at gnu.org, we end up in a dead-end about that. I will continue to do my searches in google with site:gna.org in the text field. No big deal, but a pity. "Do that but don't tell who told you to do it"... Should we ignore also an article in favor of free software because it has not be printed using free software (which is probably the case of most papers)? Or should we refuse any pointer to a website that is running MS-IIS? I'm not sure about what we are promoting here.
