Of course, you also have Emacs, but I prefer joe. It has syntax highliting 
ncurses-based windowing
(multiple documents visible at the same time), macros, regexes, and several 
keybinding modes. Of
course, is not a "My editor can make coffee and entertain my wife", it's just 
an editor. But does a
godamn good job. Also true for remote editing with slow connections.
