Asteroid seen having a chance to hit Earth

April 14, 2005 An asteroid could approach Earth close enough for a
collision between 2035 and 2037, a Korean scientist at a state-run laboratory
confirmed yesterday.
"The probability is very low at 0.015 percent," Moon Hong-kyu of the
Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute said, but added that measures to
keep the object under observation were needed.
According to Mr. Moon, the opinion was expressed by Andrea Carusi,
president of the Spaceguard Foundation based in Italy, during a UN Committee on
the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space meeting between Feb. 21 and March 4 in Vienna.
The asteroid, 2004 MN4, is 320 meters (1050 feet) long and is now 68.4
million kilometers from Earth. The asteroid will make close passes, possibly
near enough for a collision, in 2035, 2036 and 2037, the scientists said.
