Girl Divorced and Remarried Before the Age of 10

RIYADH, 15 July 2005 - Mother of 'Malak', a girl who is not yet 10 years
old, was shocked to learn of her daughter's second marriage right after
finishing the legal closure period of her first divorce, reported Al-Watan
Arabic daily.
Malak, first time round, was married off to a man in his 50s who already
had three wives. After he divorced her, Malak's maternal grandmother filed for
the girl's custody after it became apparent that Malak's father intended to rid
himself of the child again.
The judge ruled in favor of the grandmother two weeks later with all the
legal documents issued. However after the verdict was given the mother and
grandmother were unable to locate the child. And when the police finally
managed to find the child, they found her married again in the city of Taif.
Malak was married off the first time on April 14. A member of faculty
from Imam Mohammad ibn Saud University, Dr. Waleed Al-Rushudi, denounced the
father's conduct and said he was abusing his guardianship.
"I was dreaming of holding my child in my arms after being deprived of
her for 5 years," said Malak's mother who was divorced by Malak's father.
"My daughter not yet 10 has been deprived of her childhood. She is a
divorcee and has been remarried."
