(File Photo) AFP, Amman A 26-year-old Jordanian was sentenced to life in prison on Sunday for killing his sister in 2010 after her husband accused her of adultery, a court official said. âThe criminal court initially condemned the man to death for stabbing to death his 28-year-old sister, but the sentence was immediately commuted to life in jail after their family urged leniency,â he told AFP. âThe convict's 17-year-old brother took part in the crime, but he was not charged with anything because he suffers from behavioral disorder.â The official said the crime took place in Sahab, in the south of Amman. âIn 2008, the victimâs husband filed a complaint against his wife, accusing her of adultery. This enraged her family, who threatened to kill her,â he said. âIn July, 2010, the man sent his wife to her family after a fight. Her brother killed her immediately.â Murder is punishable by death in Jordan but, in so-called âhonor killings,â courts can commute or reduce sentences, particularly if the victimâs family asks for leniency.
