The shocking incident took place at Pandua in Hooghly on Saturday evening. The girl was walking along with her mother on the road when at around 7.30 pm, two youth came in their way and threw acid on her face and fled, preliminary investigations revealed. The girl received burn injuries on her face and body. She was taken to Pandua Grameen Hospital but was referred to Chinsurah Imambara Hospital after her condition worsened. The doctors have set a 72-hour deadline for observation. The victim’s mother later lodged a complaint with the police. The accused, Mohammed Dalim, was arrested. During interrogations, he named another accused, Mohammed Sujit, whom he had given `12,000 for throwing acid, the police said. Both were remanded in police custody by the court. The girl’s mother alleged that the two youth used to disturb her regularly on the road. “Getting complaint from my daughter, I had warned them not to do so,” she said.
