Deaths in Afghan Eid suicide attack
Attack by man in police uniform leaves over 40 killed and injured outside
mosque in northern province of Faryab.

A suicide attacker in an Afghan National Police uniform has killed 27 people
and injured over a dozen in northern Afghanistan, local officials say.
The Friday attack occurred when the attacker detonated his explosives outside a
mosque in Maymana, the capital of Faryab province.
"There was a suicide bombing in the city's main mosque as people finished
praying," Abdul Satar Barez, deputy governor of the province, told the AFP news
agency.
"There are casualties," he said.
Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith, reporting from Kabul, said 27 killed were a mixture
of civilians and members of the Afghan National Security Forces.
"It appears the target was military and security force members", said our
correspondent.
The worshippers were on their way to Eid prayers in the provincial capital.
The attack comes on the first of the three-day Eid al-Adha holiday in
Afghanistan.
