Millions of demonstrators took to the world's streets on Thursday in a series of "flash mobs" to call for an end to violence against women. According to the United Nations, one out of three women on the planet will experience gender-based violence. A global campaign calling for gender equality and an end to violence against women celebrated its 15th anniversary on Thursday with a series of "flash mobs" in which millions of demonstrators from 205 countries took part. >From Kabul to London, and Sydney to Rome, crowds danced in a show of support >of the `One Billion Rising' project, to increase awareness of the injustices >faced by women. The project, founded by activist and "The Vagina Monologues" playwright Eve Ensler, unites women (and their male supporters) around the world each Valentine's Day through dance. One out of three - around one billion - women will be beaten or raped in their lifetime, according to the United Nations.
