Al Arabiya with Reuters -
A member of Al Arabiya’s crew in Jerusalem was beaten and arrested
by Israeli police on Wednesday during the channel’s coverage of the
Nakba or “Day of Catastrophe” commemorations.
Al Arabiya’s
cameraman Toufiq Saliba has been accused of allegedly assaulting an
Israeli policeman. He was taken into custody and reportedly beaten
inside an Israeli police station, Al Arabiya’s Jerusalem office said.
The news comes as clashes erupted between Palestinians and Israeli forces
in the occupied West Bank during demonstrations that mark 65 years since the
Palestinians were displaced, Reuters said.
Protesters
skirmished with Israeli forces outside a refugee camp near the West Bank city
of Hebron and at a prison near Ramallah, leaving several
Palestinians injured, the agency reported.
Thousands also rallied in the main square of Ramallah, the Palestinians' de
facto capital
while Jerusalem remains under Israeli control, holding up placards with
the names of villages depopulated in 1948 and old keys, symbols of lost
homes.
“For the sake of my future and to return to my family's
land, I don't want any more useless negotiations but the path of
resistance and the rifle,” said Ahmed al-Bedu, a gangly15-year-old
Palestinian who holds Jordanian citizenship told Reuters.
U.S.
Secretary of State John Kerry will return to the Middle East Tuesday in
what has been reported as an another bid to revive peace talks between
the Palestinians and the Israelis.
