Thursday: a police patrol, in Bâtes, came across a 'jeune' who had been released the night before in connection with a drug-related offence, with a summons to appear in front of a court. Confronted by an attitude they judged to be provocative, the officers tried to arrest him. But one of the police officers was blocked by passers-by, who then took flight, along with the suspect. In the afternoon, the escapee was found by another patrol. His refusal to submit to lawful authority led the police officers to use a certain amount of force to arrest him. Several persons threw stones. One of them was arrested. The use of force by the police was judged excessive by the witnesses and by the person's mother. Along with others, she went to the police station at around 5 pm. To avoid things getting out of hand, the police station was closed and evacuated.
