Evo Morales' presence in Paris generates expectations . Stops over in Belgium and Holland PARIS, January 6.- Evo Morales, president-elect of Bolivia, began a visit to Paris today, where he is to meet tomorrow in the Elyseé Palace with President Jacques Chirac, according to a government communiqué. As was the case in Spain, the indigenous leader's visit has created much expectation in the French business sector, which is hoping for first-hand information regarding the economic plans of the South American country's next government. The leader of the Movement Toward Socialism, who began his tour of Europe in Spain and made quick stops in Brussels and Holland, arrived last night in the French capital to begin a full work program early today. This includes a press conference, and a speech - accompanied by his economic advisor, Carlos Villegas - at an event organized by the Inter-American Development Bank at the Casa de America Latina in Paris, as well as numerous interviews. On Saturday, President Chirac will receive Morales in what French government sources described as a "first point of contact" that had its precedent in his message of congratulations to the indigenous leader for his electoral victory last month. In that message, Chirac acknowledged that his election "marks a new stage in the history of Bolivia and Latin America" and "expresses the hope of a majority of his compatriots of being better listened to in their diversity and their legitimate interests." Morales began his current tour leading up to his investiture on January 22 with a visit to Cuba, followed by one to Venezuela, where he discussed issues relevant to regional integration with Presidents Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez. Subsequently, his third stop was Spain, a very significant decision that President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero judged favorably for its great symbolism, and was well-received by the Spanish business community.
