***Lha timing tinggal dibicarakan kemudian disetujui Hu Jingtao, semuanya
pasti beres.

***Andai kata Pope Benedict XVI dapat bisikan God, tetapi Hu Jingtao tidak
sempat, Tiongkok tidak akan terima dia deh.

***Mau disambut meriah di Beijing, mudah sekali. Tutup kantor perwakilan
Vatican di Taipei, nyatakan mendukung one China. Tidak usah 'up to God'.

Pope wants to visit China,
but that will be ‘up to God’

HONG KONG: Pope Benedict XVI told a delegation from Hong Kong that he will
visit China but the trip’s timing would be up to God, media reports said
Tuesday.

The previous Roman Catholic Pope, John Paul II, traveled widely but never
visited China, which doesn’t have formal relations with the Holy See. One of
the Vatican’s goals is to restart official ties with the communist nation,
home to millions of Catholics.

The Hong Kong delegation was in Rome for ceremonies installing 15 new
cardinals, including Hong Kong Bishop Joseph Zen.

The delegation included Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai, who told the Pope
on Monday, “Please come to China to bring us love and democracy,” Lai’s
Apple Daily newspaper reported in a front-page story.

The newspaper said the pope responded, “I will come.”

But the Pope said the timing of a visit would depend on “God’s wish,” the
Ming Pao Daily reported, quoting Hong Kong Catholic Diocese vicar Father
Dominic Chan.

On Saturday, the Vatican’s foreign minister said the “time is ripe” for the
Holy See and Beijing to establish diplomatic relations.

Roman Catholics on mainland China were forced to cut ties with the Vatican
in 1951 shortly after the officially atheistic Communist Party took power.
Worship is permitted only in government-controlled churches, but millions
belong to unofficial congregations loyal to Rome.

Zen, an outspoken champion of religious freedom in China, said he believed
the Pope would visit Hong Kong first if he makes a China trip.

“Hong Kong is part of China and perhaps he should come here as a first
step,” Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post quoted Zen as saying.

The pope also met with Hong Kong veteran democrat Martin Lee and encouraged
him to continue fighting for democracy in the former British colony, the
report said. Hong Kong was promised eventual full democracy when it was
returned to China in 1997, but Beijing has yet to say when voters will enjoy
those rights.

Zen introduced Lee to the Pope as a “legislator fighting for democracy in
Hong Kong,” the Post reported. The pope told Lee: “Do continue,” the report
said.
