Foreign Countries Ready to Fund Fishing Patrol Ships Thursday, 02 November, 2006 | 20:13 WIB TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi has said that Australia, China and the Netherlands are ready to provide loans for the procurement of 15 patrol ships for monitoring illegal fishing totaling US$150 million. According to him, the department will still keep open the opportunity for other countries that are also interested to providing loans for the project. "What's important is they fulfill our requirements," he said in Jakarta yesterday (1/11). The requirements include a 15 years term, three percent maximum interest per month and projects to be carried out in Indonesia using domestic raw materials. "If necessary, using steel from Indonesia," he said. In addition, the workers required for constructing the patrol ships will have to be recruited from Indonesia.
