Chevron to build polytechnic in Aceh Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI), in alliance with the Banda Aceh government and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will build a polytechnic school in Aceh as part of the company's Aceh recovery program under the Chevron Aceh Recovery Initiative. Polytechnic Aceh will be built on seven hectares of land in Pongo Raya village in Ulee Kareng district, Banda Aceh. Construction of the school is expected to be completed in September 2008. A memorandum of understanding on the construction of the polytechnic school was signed between Chevron, USAID and the Banda Aceh municipality in April. Chevron is contributing US$5 million to design and build the physical facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, library, offices and auditorium halls. USAID will establish the institution, including developing the curriculum, training and hiring the staff, providing furnishings and equipment, and developing linkages with industry and government. Once constructed, Polytechnic Aceh will be operated by a non-profit foundation, Yayasan Politeknik Aceh, with the support of the local government and the business community, while the polytechnic will remain the property of the government of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. The USAID and Chevron alliance will provide initial funding for up to three years. However, ongoing funding will be met by the polytechnic itself.
