Seven banks to provide Rp31 T loan for plantation revitalitation

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Seven national banks will provide a syndicated loan of
Rp31 trillion to finance the country`s plantation revitalization program until
2010, a minister said.

The loan consisted of Rp12 trillion from Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Rp11
trillion from Bank Mandiri, Rp1 trillion from Bank Bukopin, Rp980 billion from
Bank Pembangunan Daerah in West Sumatra, Rp500 billion from Bank Pembangunan
Daerah in North Sumatra, Rp5 trillion from Bank BNI and Rp650 billion from Bank
Sumatra Selatan, Agriculture Minister Anton Apriyantono said here Wednesday.

"This year alone, the banks will channel Rp4.4 trillion in loans," he said.

Under the program, the government had set itself the target of revitalizing 2
million hectares of plantations over the next five years, he said.

The plantations consisted of 1.5 million hectares of oil palm plantations,
300,000 hectares of rubber plantations and 200,000 hectares of cocoa
plantations, he said.

He said the program was aimed at developing smallholder plantations by
involving business partners through a one-stop plantation management system for
at least one planting cycle.

The loan carried an annual interest of 10 percent with the interest subsidy
borne by the government, he said.

"The interest subsidy will be given until the plantitations yield crops, namely
a maximum of five years for oil palm plantations and seven years for rubber
plantations," he said.(*)
