Russia will ensure a nuclear power plant it is to build in Turkey will be able
to withstand powerful earthquakes, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.

Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom and contractor Atomstroiexport will
use a "new scheme of management" in building Turkey's first nuclear power plant
in the southern town of Akkuyu, Medvedev said on Wednesday during talks with
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow.

"The plant that will be built will be an example for the rest of the world,"
Erdogan said.

Engineers in Japan are struggling to avert nuclear fuel from boiling at
Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami
knocked out its cooling systems last Friday.

Helicopters are being used to dump seawater on the facility to cool the
reactors and storage units, after workers were withdrawn amid a rise in
radiation levels.
