Local News Sandstorms dissipating, clear skies for weekend: Met office Published Date: April 14, 2011 KUWAIT: The heavy sandstorms that blanketed Kuwait on Wednesday are expected to disappear entirely today, with fine clear weather returning by this evening and sunny weather expected over the weekend, according to the country's meteorology office. The storms were a result of a high pressure front in the north of the country combined with a cold air mass and strong winds gusting to up to 50 kilometers per hour, according to a senior met office official. Visibility levels fell to less than 250 meters in some built-up areas yesterday, and to 400 meters at Kuwait International Airport (KIA) whilst being reduced to virtually zero in open areas, the met office reported. Met office director Mohammad Karam predicted that the sandstorms would dissipate overnight and disappear by early Thursday morning, although he warned those setting out to sea to be extra-careful due to extremely choppy conditions, which could lead to high waves. Karam urged motorists to take particular care when driving during sandstorms, as well as warning asthmatic people and those suffering from allergies to take the necessary precautions in these conditions and to stay home if possible, only venturing out if absolutely essential. He also advised the public to check the weather forecast when setting out on trips due to the changeable weather at this time of year. Eminent local meteorologist Saleh Al-Ujairi said that the sandstorms are entirely normal for this time of year, but echoed Karam's warnings to sailors and those with breathing problems to take particular care due to the current changeable weather patterns. - KUNA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Post message: [email protected] Subscribe : [email protected] Unsubscribe : [email protected] List owner : [email protected] Homepage : http://proletar.8m.com/Yahoo!
