Security forces killed two demonstrators in a central Syrian city on Friday, a
rights activist has said. President Bashar al-Assad reportedly ordered troops
not to fire on anti-government protesters, who once more rallied across the
country.

AFP - Syrian security forces killed two demonstrators in the central city of
Homs on Friday despite orders by President Bashar al-Assad not to open fire on
protesters, a human rights activist said.

Activist Nawar al-Omar said Fuad Rajab, 40, was hit in the head with a bullet
when security forces opened fire to break up a demonstration in Syria's
third-largest city.

A second protester was also killed, the activist said, without providing
further details.

Meanwhile, troops deployed in large numbers to protest hubs across the country,
including the Damascus suburb of Saqba, where they "tore down banners and signs
hung in the streets," activists told AFP.

Regime opponents took to the streets across Syria for rallies, as Assad's
forces pressed on with a campaign of sweeping arrests in protest hotspots.
