Christian-Muslim rapprochement
This refers to the article, “Key to Christian-Muslim rapprochement in US” (Aug.
31) by Michael S. Bos.

The article is really an eye-opener. First of all, for maintaining amicable
relations, Muslims and Christians must trust each other. There is a needle of
suspicion pointed toward Muslims. This is unjustifiable. Islam does not
advocate any kind of terrorism. Harping on the incidents of 9/11 is not
calculated to turn the relations between the two communities in a positive
direction. The point to be understood is that in every society there are some
black sheep. The whole community cannot be blamed for the actions of an
individual or group of individuals. Apart from this, let bygones be bygones, as
digging up the past will not help end the friction between the two communities.

Most of the Muslims want to maintain good relations with the followers of other
religions. From this perspective, Muslims should not be treated suspiciously,
should not be called by offensive names, should not be singled out by airport
security, should not be mistreated at the offices, and should not be deprived
of their legal rights. Should these things be taken care of, excellent rapport
between Muslims and Christians can be maintained, and Muslims will feel at home
in the US, and they will perform their duties with more loyalty.
