http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/home/120-islamic-defenders-front-members-struck-down-with-food-poisoning/467234 120 Islamic Defenders Front Members Struck Down With Food Poisoning Camelia Pasandaran | September 23, 2011 Some 120 members of the hard-line Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) have been hospitalized suffering from food poisoning after eating food distributed during a protest outside the Corruption Eradication Commission in Jakarta on Thursday. “According to our records, there are 120 members who have been hospitalized in separate hospitals,” Habib Salim, chairperson of FPI’s Jakarta branch, told the Jakarta Globe on Friday. “Some of them are in Pelni Hospital and the others have been hospitalized at Bakti Mulya Slipi Hospital.” The victims include five children and 13 women, he said. The FPI, along with the Islamic Reform Movement (Garis) and Islamic People’s Forum (FUI), were involved in a demonstration in support of the fight against corruption by the antigraft agency, known as the KPK. FPI members received food from the rally organizer, with a number later complaining of dizziness, nausea and vomiting. “Some members that accompanied our members to the hospitals said the doctor’s had diagnosed them as suffering from food poisoning,” Habib said. “But we’re still waiting for the final investigation results from the police.” Neither Garis nor FUI have reported any cases of sickness.
