Akhir-akhir ini diberitakan bahwa cadangan devisa yang dimiliki oleh pemerintah Indonesia adalah kurang lebih US$ 100,—miliar. Dengan diterimanya US$ 52 miliar dari PT Freeport dalm 9 bulan pertama tahun 2011, berarti 50% dari cadangan devisa NKRI berasal dari Papua.
Jumlah US$52,miliar dari Freeport belum terhitung lagi pendapatan hasil exploatasi gas alam dari sumur Tangguh di Teluk Bituni. yang pada bulan September tahun 2002, pemerintah´ Megawati menandatangani kontrak untuk sexport gas alam sebanyak 2,6 juta ton gas tiap tahun ke Fujian (Tiongkok) selama 25 tahun. Ke Korea Selatan 1,35 juta ton gas tiap tahun untuk jangka waktu 20 tahun. Dengan Sempra Enegery LNG Corp ditandatangani kontrak untuk disupply 3,7 juta ton gas tiap tahun ke Mexico dan California untuk jangka waktu selama 20 tahun. Berapa banyak pendapatan yang diterima pemerintah Indonesia dari gas allam Bituni, rupanya menjadi rahasia negara, oleh karena itu angka-angka Jadi Papua pemberi nafkah istimewa pada kas NKRI, maka oleh karena itu dibilang bahwa Papua dalam NKRI adalah harga mati. Sekalipun uang yang miliaran dollar masuk ke kas NKRI, tetapi keadaan penduduk di Papua sesuai Harian Kompas 22 Maret 2005 dikatakan bahwa 83% penduduk Papua hidup dalam kemiskinan. Tentu ada yang bilang itu berita lama, betul berita lama, tetapi apakah telah berubah jika Sensus BPS 2010 mencantumkan Papua, Aceh, Maluku, Kalimantan, NTT adalah wilayah termiskin dalam NKRI. Baru-baru ini Wattimena, anggota DPRRI dari Papua Barat dalam interview dengan surat khabar Ambon Express , 01 November 2011, ia mengatakan bahwa “Kawasan Timur jauh tertinggal” ( http://www.ambonekspres.com/index.php?option=read&cat=53&id=35293 ). Pengertian Wattimena mengenai kawasan timur mencakup wilayah geografis Maluku, NTT dan Papua secara kesuluruhan. University of Indonesia research indicates PT FI contributes more than 98 percent of the GDP for Mimika Regency and more than half for all of Papua. PT FI paid US$52 billion in taxes, royalties and dividends during the first nine months of 2011 and over $13 billion since 1992. The majority of PT FI’s royalties are directed to provincial and local government. PT FI pays Indonesia more than it would pay other countries if the mine were located in Canada, Australia, South Africa, Peru, Chile or the United States. PT FI has invested over $7 billion to develop its operations and infrastructure, including town sites, power plants, an airport, seaport, roads, bridges, waste disposal facilities and communication systems. PT FI has also built schools, dormitories, hospitals and clinics, places of worship, recreational facilities and assisted locally owned enterprise development. Over $15 billion in future investments will be funded. PT FI voluntarily contributes 1 percent of its revenues to a community fund administered by the local community. Your editorial portrayed PT FI’s operations as an “American enclave” which is simply not true. We are a proud partner of Papua and Indonesia. We appreciate the support of the Indonesian government and local officials to protect PT FI as a vital national asset and urge all stakeholders to work cooperatively to resolve the current labor issues as soon as possible and restore peace in the Mimika area.
