Prometheus supports basic auth <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_access_authentication> and/or mutual TLS <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_authentication> for scraping targets - see `basic_auth` and `tls_config` sections in https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/configuration/configuration/#scrape_config for details.
