When viewing Status -> Targets in the Prometheus UI, the endpoints/targets that have a State of DOWN have an error message in the Error column. That error message can take on different messages, e.g connection timed out, deadline exceeded, connection refused, etc.
What metric or logic is being used to populate the Error column? I would like to use it to provide more detail in the Alert message if possible. Based on the error message, actions needed to resolve the alert will be different. I have looked at the Prometheus metrics. There is nothing obvious. I figure it has to be one of those since Prometheus would not be able to reach a server if that server was down.
