I recall using an HP Hall effect current tracer in the mid 80's (or maybe a few years later) to look for track shorts. Dunno the model number. Was smallish hand help thingy - a bit like a logic probe.

I made a short tracer using a hall effect sensor once. I fixed the board with the high voltage/high current (80V/5A) supply. Worked well - not suggested in a production environment though.

Another time I made a drilling jig to drill out an internal short - had to do about 5 prototypes. A bit messy but did the job.
