The difficulty is that the pins then fall off-grid and don't connect. However, you can readily define such a part in the library editor, making the graphics run at the angles you want. I've done bridge rectifiers that way; there, it makes sense to still have the pins sticking out orthogonally. For what you describe, those orthogonal pins may be a pain; you might try a zero-length pin to accomplish what you want.
