Just came across this website which I found absolutely fascinating - an index 
of countries in the world, based on how efficiently they convert the earth's 
resources into years of 'happy ' human life:

It seems to show that moderately developed countries are generally 'happier' 
than countries of either high or low development. And also, on page 29 of the 
report, is a graph indicating that wealth and strong government do not 
correlate with life satisfaction in Europe. Factors that correlate the most are 
creativity, loyalty and adventure. 

Really interesting, check it out!

In addition, you can calculate your own personal score on the Happy Planet 
Index. How happy are you... and at what price to the environment?!
Please note that the survey is completely anonymous - no information is 
collected which can identify you personally. Again, I found it very 
interesting, and true.
