Greenpeace just released a Toxic Report Card on the biggest
companies in the tech industry. You might be surprised to find Apple
near the bottom.
Below is the full alert and a link to take action and send a message
to the polluters.
Technology makes our lives easier, right? But could it be cutting
lives short too? We decided to put the biggest technology companies
to the test, and the results may surprise you.
That's because many of the world's leading manufacturers are
producing electronics with toxic chemicals like polyvinyl chloride
plastic and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). In this test, high
levels of toxic chemicals in electronics products means more than a
failing grade for the company, it represents serious health and
environmental hazards to children in the developing world who take
these products apart for scraps.
And just think of the piles of outdated electronics piling up -
don't you wonder which companies have a good recycling program? You
may not like the answers we found.
So guess who ranked at the bottom of the barrel? Apple. Along with
Motorola, Acer, and Lenovo.
Tell these toxic tech companies to clean up their act.
You've been instrumental in teaching a lesson to leading technology
companies like HP and Dell, who have clearly paid attention. Now
it's time to tell Apple to innovate, and catch up with PC leaders
who've already started using alternatives and implementing recycling
