could you create more compact version of proTeXt with less that 1GB of installation size but that has everything what needs to write math/scientific paper?

i agree with you, that ProTeXt's Zip-Archive has become to big in the last years. While the greatest parts of the archive are claimed by the (La)TeX-packages shipped with MiKTeX, reducing the size comprise with the following problems:

- Which packages can be dropped, while there is still everything inside to "write math/scientific paper"s?

- Is MiKTeX's installation-routine still usable with a package-reduced istallation-archive?

- Will i run into any licensing problems, when i extract any packages from the installation-archive?

As long, as i don't have any serious answers to the questions pointed above, i'll see no chance for a size-reduction.

Sincerely - Thomas
