I would like to use Protocol Buffers within a Java product and ideally would like to package the generic classes for issue. However, the installation involves compiling the Descriptors.proto which suggests that the Descriptors.java class is platform specific is this true?. We do not want to have to build for different platforms. The alternative is not to issue the classes at all relying on the user to install and build protocol buffers if required - in this case is there an issue with providing an install script? Advice on how to approach this would be appreciated?
