This should be reopened, it is still an outstanding bug in 2.3.0. According to the ELF specification, a DT_NEEDED entry is required in libprotobuf referencing libpthread. If this were present, end developers would not need to (and shouldn't, if they don't need
it themselves) pass -lpthread to their linker at all.
