I don't know of any implementations other than those on the third party
add-on list.  If you look at the update log for ruby-protobuf:
  http://code.google.com/p/ruby-protobuf/updates/list
 <http://code.google.com/p/ruby-protobuf/updates/list>it shows recent
activity, suggesting the project is still active.
