Right now you can build protobuf using either autotools (autoconf, 
automake, etc) or CMake. We are considering deprecating the autotools build 
in favor of CMake.

CMake supports Windows, Linux, and macOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, and 
AIX. Other UNIX-like operating systems may work too.

Is anybody building protobuf on platforms where CMake is not available? 
Removing autotools would make protobuf easier to maintain, but we don't 
want to break users who may be building on more obscure platforms.
