The exact version of protoc used should not matter that much with regard to 
the exact version of protoc-gen-go. However, if you want to use one of the 
newer features of the protobuf language (e.g., proto3 optional), then 
you'll need a newer version of protoc-gen-go (e.g, v1.25.0).

I should also note that v1.2.0 is fairly old, being released in August, 
2018. I recommend using a newer version of protoc-gen-go.
