Rafael H. Schloming commented on PROTON-135:

Are there specific scenarios you're running into that need this? I'd like to
understand more about how it would be used. I'm wary of exposing type-specific
allocators as the internal types used by the engine can/will change, so
exposing that would make for a fairly brittle API.
> Provide hooks in proton-c to allow override of malloc/free for internal types

> Project: Qpid Proton

> It is desirable for engine applications (i.e. advanced developers) to be able
> to provide a custom memory management solution for data types used in proton.
> I will follow up later with a proposal for how this might be done. My
> general thought is to allow an extension "plugin" to provide type-specific
> 'allocate' and 'free' functions.
