If I'm following this discussion correctly, I think we should consider choosing 
a common API that is more similar to the Java API, or at least includes the 
slightly higher level functionality that it presents. The reason I say this is 
that thinking about how I'm going to use this from inside messenger, I would 
need to implement a hostname based LRU cache of session state anyways, so we 
might as well put this LRU cache into the SSLDomain where it can be accessible 
in a nearly transparent way to anyone directly using the SSL api.
