The project's pom.xml states maven 3 as a prerequisite. This is untrue: we
currently make use of no maven features that require maven 3. Maven 2 is
sufficient to perform the complete compile-test-install cycle.
The maven 3 prerequisite will be removed in order for Proton to build on the
widest range of platforms without requiring the user to upgrade.
