Using pn_data_clear(data) to clear the contents of data doesn't reset the
embedded error indicator.
It's not clear to me if this is the correct behaviour or not.
Is there a case for setting the error, resetting the data and then checking the
error status?
I'd rather expect to clear the data and then set the error status.
