Seconded. I had spotted this for proton-j but not got round to raising it. The 
only way to tell is from the detached event. If you dont catch it then (e.g by 
lumping all link state changes into a single handler rather than individual 
ones) then you cant tell later as the state is 'closed' like Gordon says.
