Afaik, Prototype in opera uses xpath for selecting nodes. However since 9.02 
(http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/902/) opera supports presumably 
faster methods selectNodes and selectSingleNode, predecessors of Selector API 
methods.

I think it's a good idea to use them when possible. Of course opera 9.5 would 
implement querySelector itself, but lots of people will continue to use 
versions prior to 9.5 for some time.
