I just came here looking for the same thing (well, a version
containing script.aculo.us 1.8.2 actually).

Why has protopacked been removed from this group? I get that the
developers of Prototype don't want to provide an "official" compressed
version of the framework, but surely lots of people were using
protopacked. I don't want to have to re-compress each new version
myself and wonder whether I've done it correctly - I want a tried and
tested version which protopacked used to provide.
