When I do this:
document.viewport.getDimensions()

I get 0 for height and 0 for width if the IE browser is in Quirks mode. 
 This may or may not be a bug, I get that.  So my question is:

Can you determine through javascript what the browser mode is?  

  If Browser Is Quirky
       .. sound the alarm ..
  Otherwise
       .. code as usual ..
