I also have build 5026:

powerpc-apple-darwin8-gcc-4.0.0 (GCC) 4.0.0 (Apple Computer, Inc.  
build 5026)

It looks like there is some sort of difference in John's colleague's
gcc, build 4061 and the build El and I have, even though they all are
gcc version 4.0.

I have an iMini, but the gcc version reports something different:
