Seems okay to me.

I am mostly worried about advertising a stable *external* API.
If code is in the CVS tree, then we can fix it at the same time
we change the API, or at least know that it is broken.

I say, work on what you're interested in.  If that's what you'd
like to work on, go for it.  Especially if you think users would
appreciate it.
