Would it not be a good idea to have datasheet_rename defined as a simple inline returning its argument, when DEBUGGING is off ?

After this patch everything compiles, but linking fails because
casereader_clone and some other casereader symbols are duplicates.
The next patch removes casefile.c from the build and fixes the
