Trial and error shows that it's necessary to link against libwsock32.a and libws2_32.a from mingw. But I don't know how we would be supposed to add these dependencies. Shouldn't gnulib look after that?

This could easily be our fault: I wouldn't be surprised if we
were omitting some of the needed $(variables) or @variables@ from
the LDADD variables etc. Did you look those over first?
