I want to add programmability to PSPP, too. John Darrington has
posted a patch that takes a little bit of a step in the right
direction, by adding some support for Perl, at:

Unfortunately I'm under severe time constraints right now, and
programmability is not my highest priority project--that's
prettier output at the moment--so I have no idea if or when this
will get done. (If anyone wants to contribute a programmability
implementation, I'm sure we'd gratefully accept it if it was done
properly.)
