If you have a variable called "preference", then all you need to do is
run:

 FREQUENCIES preference .

and you will get a table showing you how many people chose which preference.

But once again, I'm still not completely sure I understand your requirements,
so it's always a good idea to post an example of what you've got, and what
you've tried.
